Sufi whirling is a form of physically active meditation in a Sufi ceremony that is performed as dhikr. Sama means "listening" and dhikr means "remembrance".

The physiological goal of the whirling is for the dervish to “empty” her/himself of all distractions. Similar techniques are used in some other religious rituals in Columbia.
